July Book Sale Canceled, and Book Donations Still On Hold
June 1, 2020 — Westport Book Sale Ventures, the nonprofit enterprise with the dual social mission of supporting the Westport Library, while providing meaningful employment for adults with disabilities, through the conduct of used book sales, announced today that the Westport Library’s 2020 Summer Book Sale, originally scheduled to begin on July 18, 2020, has been canceled. The cause is the ongoing pandemic and related restrictions on large gatherings. The Book Sale also continues to be unable to accept donations of books at this time. Book donations are expected to resume later this summer.
“The Westport Library giant Summer Book Sale is a widely anticipated annual event, and it pains us to have to cancel the sale, but the well-being of our community, our volunteers, and our patrons is paramount,” said Mimi Greenlee, Book Sale Chair.
Instead, Westport Book Sale Ventures announced it will be conducting a “virtual” fund-raising event, to help raise funds to support its operations for the coming year, and to provide support for the Library. The “Westport Book Sales’ Inaugural Auction and Book Sale” will commence online on June 10, 2020. “Surprise” bundles of books in a variety of categories will be available for purchase from June 10 through June 26. Auction items may be previewed commencing June 10, with online silent bidding taking place from June 17 through June 19.
