Please note the following Book Sale Procedures:

  • No books or other materials may be left unattended at any time, except in designated areas.  Books may not be aggregated in aisles nor may they block any exit.  This policy will be strictly enforced.  Any books found piled up in an aisle or blocking an exit will be promptly re-shelved.

  • Shoppers are requested to evaluate items "in place"— decide whether to purchase an item at the table or shelf where it is displayed.  If you reject an item, please return it to the place it was displayed.

  • There will be designated a limited area for high volume purchasers to aggregate and evaluate potential purchases.  Due to space limitations, this area will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Users are required to leave their name and cellphone number with their materials in this area.  Users are asked to return rejected books to the place they were originally displayed.

  • As a convenience for high volume purchasers — as in recent sales, we will be happy to begin to add-up (tally) books you have selected for purchase while you continue shopping.  You will be required to leave your name and cellphone number with your selections.

  • Please bring your own bags, boxes and rolling carts to carry your selections.  We do not anticipate having any boxes available for your use.

Please note the following additional procedures with respect to face masks and other precautions:

  • As of this writing, the wearing of face masks inside the Library and at the book sale is optional.  We will continue to monitor local conditions and regulations, and will adjust this procedure as warranted.  Please check back here on the day of the sale, to confirm mask requirements.  If face masks are required, you will need to supply your own mask.

  • Hand sanitizer will be available for use at the entrance to the sale, and at various stations throughout the Library.

  • Social distancing is highly encouraged.

  • If you are feeling unwell, have a fever, or are exhibiting any other symptoms of illness, please stay home.

  • Capacity will be subject to fire marshal regulations and any other regulations in effect at the time of the sale.

A benefit event
to support the next phase of our employment program

In November 2021, Westport Book Sales began selling books on eBay.  Now we are piloting an expansion of our employment program, to engage employees with differing abilities in our eBay business.  Participation in our eBay business provides training in valuable computer, data entry and office-type skills, broadening the work experience and marketability of our employees.  And it will provide support for our fledgling online sales business.

On October 25, 2023 we hosted Chapter Two: Spanning From Retail to E-tail, to raise funds to support this next phase of our employment program.  Guests enjoyed live music by Zoe's Lounge, light bites & beverages, a paddle-raise, and both a live and a silent auction of a representative sample of the kinds of things we sell on eBay, plus artwork and signed books donated uniquely for this event.

If you missed our benefit event, you can still support our efforts:  click here to donate.  Thank you.
