Upcoming Westport Book Shop Events
Short Story Club at the Book Shop

Short on time but long on interest?
Every month the Westport Book Shop's Short Story Club
will get together to discuss another classic or
contemporary short story or pair of stories
Meets at the Westport Book Shop on
the fourth Thursday of every month
from 6:00 to 7:30pm
Come to one session, some, or all, it's up to you!
Space is limited; registration is required.
Each month's short story selection will be announced by or around the first day of the month, and registration for that month's session will open when the email announcing that month's selection goes out. Make sure you are on our email list (use the "Contact Us" form at the bottom of the page), so you'll be among the first to know!
The next session of the Short Story Club will be Thursday, September 25, 2025. We will be discussing three stories about teachers and students:
"Prime" by Caoilinn Hughes (2019),
"A Way with Bea" by Shanteka Sigers (2020), and
"Biology" by Kevin Wilson (2020)
Registration for each Short Story Club session is required, as pace is limited. To register, please phone the Westport Book Shop at 203-349-5141 or send an email to: RSVP@westportbooksaleventures.org
All three of this month's stories are available at The Westport Library for printout, or at the Westport Book Shop in hard copy to borrow for up to three days. Short Story selections also are often available online. This month, "Prime" can be found at granta.com, "Biology" can be found at thesouthernreivew.org, and a reading of "A Way with Bea" can be heard on a symponhyspace.org Selected Shorts 2023 podcast.

A benefit event
to help sustain our employment program and grow our community
Since opening the Westport Book Shop in early 2021, we have provided over 10,500 hours of paid part-time employment and job training for more than a dozen adults and young adults with disabilities. Our employees are learning and exercising workplace skills that are transferable to other business and retail environments, and they have the opportunity for frequent everyday interaction with the community. Over this time, we have also provided more than $200,000 of support to The Westport Library.
On March 13, 2025, we hosted a benefit we called Growing Our Community, to raise funds to ensure we continue to have a solid financial foundation, and to support the potential growth or our employment program. Guests enjoyed live music performed by members of the Staples High School Jazz Ensemble, light bites & beverages, a paddle raise, and both a live and silent auction of a variety of unique books, vinyl, artworks, and experiences.
If you missed the benefit, you can still support our efforts: click here to donate. Thank you
