The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome artist Joanie Landau as its guest art exhibitor for the month of August 2021, at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Joanie is exhibiting a collection of digital collagraphs, which combine photographic elements with graphic design techniques.
“Each of my pieces begins with original photography and usually multiple images are used to form a piece. I love working with saturated color, as well as starkly contrasting black and whites,” said Joanie. “The digital art experience provides an outlet to be unceasingly creative, continually working and reworking pieces with the click of a mouse. Every new layer or filter creates endless possibilities, tapping into the unlocked potential that exists and providing the feeling that there are no barriers.”
Early in her artistic career, Joanie became fascinated with collagraphs, a rather obscure form of printmaking. She studied printmaking at the Silvermine School of Art, where she won both the “Rembrandt Award for Excellence in Graphic Art,” and the “First Prize Mixed Media” Awards.
Joanie’s studio has been featured in East Coast Home and her art is featured in numerous publications. She has exhibited in dozens of shows across the country, where she has won several awards. She is a proud member of The Artists Collective of Westport and is represented by interior designers and art consultants.
You can see Joanie's artworks at the Westport Book Shop, located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library. The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours: Tuesdays through Fridays from 11am to 6pm, Saturdays from 10am to 6pm, and Sundays from Noon to 5pm. The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport, is curating these exhibits, which change monthly. The current exhibition of Joanie Landau's works will be on view through August 31, 2021.
