Welcome to Holly Hawthorn, The Westport Book Shop's June Artist

Westport Book Shop welcomes Holly Hawthorn as its guest art exhibitor for the month of June, at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Holly has created a series of porcelain sculptures combined with seashells, just right for the summer season.

Holly is a sculptor, print maker, and ceramic artist. She studied art in the United States, Italy and Greece. For many years, she instructed students in drawing, ceramics and sculpture. She maintains a studio in the American Fabrics Building in Bridgeport, CT. Her work is shown in galleries in the Northeast and at her studio.

Holly's porcelain sculptures on exhibit at the Book Shop reflect her love of the ocean and beaches, and incorporate seashells she has gathered over many years of walks on beaches from Maine to Greece. "The seashell is a timeless symbol that for me evokes the playfulness of time spent at the beach. These illustrative works are titled to conjure a smile in the viewer through the devide of play on words," said Holly.

You can see Holly's artworks at the Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit used book shop, located at 23 Jesup Road, across Jesup Green from the Westport Library, in downtown Westport, CT. The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours: Tuesdays through Fridays from 11am to 6pm, Saturdays from 10am to 6pm, and Sundays from Noon to 5pm. (Closed Mondays)

The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of the Artists Collective of Westport, is curating these exhibits, which change monthly. The current exhibition of Holly Hawthorn's works will be on view through June 30, 2021.
