Westport Book Shop Welcomes Eric Chiang for July Art Exhibit

Updated: Aug 1, 2022

The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome artist Eric Chiang as guest exhibitor for the month of July 2022, at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place.

Eric's artwork delves into the weighty issues of human connectedness and the meaning of existence, showcasing his empathy for panhuman loneliness, desperation, love, connections and hope.

At the Book Shop, Eric is exhibiting "Moon Light Sonata", an oil painting from his "Musical Planet" series. "Wherever we go in this planet, there is music. Most of the time we never hear it, until we deliberately seek to hear it. Human beings have let the visuals dominate their senses, I thus want to present to you visually the music of our planet," says Eric.

Eric grew up in Taiwan. He said, “When I was a teenager, every time I felt discouraged, desperate or depressed, I turned to Beethoven’s music for encouragement and inspiration. And I want to do the same using my art!”

Eric is a full time professional artist. His artwork has been exhibited internationally, including in the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts; Art Revolution Taipei in Taiwan; the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in Texas; the Queens Museum; MoCA Westport; Silvermine Guild Gallery; the New Canaan Arts Center; as well as many other venues and communities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Taiwan. In September 2016 he was given a Citation from the New York State Assembly for his outstanding artwork about humanity.

You can see this exhibit at the Westport Book Shop, located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library. The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10am to 6pm, and Sundays from Noon to 5pm (closed Mondays). Eric's art will be on display through July 31, 2022. More of Eric's artwork is also on view at the Westport Library through July 14, 2022.

The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport, is curating the Book Shop's art exhibits, which change monthly.

Miggs Burroughs conducted a wide-ranging interview with Eric at the Westport Library on June 29, 2022. You can see that interview here (interview begins at the 3:20 mark). For more about Eric and to see more of his artwork, visit his website: www.ericchiangart.com
