A Garden of Opportunity

Why Our Mother’s Day Card is More Than Just a Gift

Pink orchid in gold pot, illustrated card, and pink flowers on a dark shelf against a white brick wall, creating a serene mood.

The Beauty of Meaningful Work

Every day at the Westport Book Shop, we are grateful to provide meaningful employment for adults with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to do a job they love, at a place where their talents are recognized and their contributions are valued.

Our 2026 Limited Edition Mother’s Day card fundraiser is in full swing, and it is the perfect reflection of our mission in action!

A Collective Canvas

If you’ve seen the vibrant design on this year’s card, you’re looking at a true collaborative effort. It isn't a stock image or a mass-produced design. Every flower filling the cover was hand-drawn by a member of our team — local adults with disabilities who find more than just a paycheck at our shop.

Each flower represents a person who finds purpose, dignity, and a sense of belonging when they walk through our doors. It’s a visual representation of our "community garden," where every individual contribution is essential to the beauty of the whole.

When you hold this card, you are holding the work of a team that is proud of what they do.

Convenience Meets Heart

We know life can be busy. We also know that a text message or a generic store-bought card can’t quite capture the depth of what you want to say to the women who raised, mentored, and loved you.

That’s where we come in. When you make a donation in someone’s honor through this fundraiser, we will send our beautiful, unique card to your honoree on your behalf, and you will both know that your donation is fueling a larger story of success in our community.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10th

Your donation is a direct investment in our community, helping us sustain over 3,000 hours of meaningful employment every year in an inclusive workplace where our associates can thrive.

As Jo March famously said in Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women: "She is a capital storyteller... she makes us see it all."

This year, help the women in your life see the impact of their community.
