For musician, songwriter, and author Warren Bloom, these offbeat encounters are all part of a career spanning decades in the American music and entertainment scene. In his new 358-page memoir, In and Out of Key (published by Bloomtunes Publishing), Bloom brings together a hilarious and tender collection of vignettes detailing the unpredictable life of a working musician.
From Fairfield Roots to Iconic Stages
Rooted in rock 'n' roll, doo-wop, rhythm and blues, country, and jazz, Bloom's musical journey began right here in Fairfield County. Over the years, his career took him from playing bar gigs in North Carolina to fronting the 1970s Philadelphia comedy-rock band Lobotomy (later The Facedancers), and performing as a featured house singer at NYC's legendary Catch a Rising Star.
A two-time ASCAP Performer of the Year winner, rhythm guitarist, and harmonica player, Bloom has recorded over 200 songs throughout his career.
As Warren highlights throughout his memoir, the story isn't just about the gigs that went right; it’s about the absolute absurdities backstage, the legendary personalities who shaped the era, and the joy of making music with great friends.
