Westport Book Shop Welcomes Artist Mark Yurkiw for December 2023 Art Exhibit

Updated: Jan 2

Westport, CT, December 6, 2023 — The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome as guest exhibitor at the book shop's Drew Friedman Art Place for the month of December, local artist Mark Yurkiw.

Mark’s exhibit is entitled “Art is always of its Time” and includes twelve illuminated works using large format film transparencies of 3-Dimensional images of the 1980s and 1990s.

When asked for an artist's statement, Mark said, "I create dimensional art communicating stories of our time."

Mark Yurkiw is an artist, sculptor, film maker, scientist, designer, creative director, and consultant. He has had a long career creating dimensional works of art and effects used in magazines, advertising, television, feature films, exhibitions and public art. His work has been exhibited globally, including, most recently, as part of a two-man exhibit at the United Nations.

Mark holds a BS from Hunter College, where he studied not only sculpture and art history, but also physics and mathematics. Hailing from New York City, first generation Ukrainian, he has made his home in an historic barn in Westport for the last quarter century.

The Westport Book Shop will hold a reception for Mark and his exhibit on Thursday evening, December 14 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Space is limited; please RSVP to the Book Shop at 203-349-5141 or by email at bookshop@westportbooksaleventures.org

Mark Yurkiw’s artwork will be on exhibit at the Book Shop through December 31, 2023. All work on display is available for purchase.

Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit independent used book store, is downtown Westport’s only source for gently used and antiquarian books, vintage vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and audio books. It is located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library.

The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport, curates these exhibits, which change monthly.
