Westport Book Shop Welcomes April Artist Dale Najarian

Updated: Aug 1, 2022

The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome artist Dale Najarian as guest exhibitor for the month of April 2022, in the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place.

Dale works in several mediums, including watercolor, acrylics, mixed media, and oils. At the Book Shop, she will be showing several of her newest abstract landscapes painted on wood panels.

Dale also has a passion for photography. She says that documenting her experiences is an important part of her creative process and a source of inspiration for much of her work.

"I am obsessed with shadows and their relationship to light. My work is a translation of everyday scenes and objects using color, light and form. I work from life and in my studio using my photographs as a guide. Once I capture the essence of a painting, I abandon the actual image and create from within to develop an abstracted painting the viewer can identify with. I feel privileged to paint and show my work," said Dale.

Dale Najarian is an internationally recognized artist. She received her BFA from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, and worked for over fifteen years as a Graphic Designer and Art Director at various design firms and advertising agencies in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Dale is also an advocate and philanthropist. She received the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award from Moore College of Art and Design for her active role in using art to connect with a larger audience. She currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Norwalk Art Space, which provides free art education and experiences for Norwalk students. She is also on the Executive Board of the Artists Collective of Westport, and is a Board member and Project Manager for #UNLOADusa.org, a nonprofit organization using the arts to drive the conversation about gun violence in America. Dale is also an active member of the Greenwich Arts Council and the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County.

Dale works in her studio in Bridgeport, CT at Metro Art Studios, and shows her work in curated gallery exhibitions and juried shows. You can see more of Dale’s work on her website, at www.dalenajarian.com

You can see this exhibit at the Westport Book Shop, located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library. The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10am to 6pm, and Sundays from Noon to 5pm (closed Mondays). Dale's art will be on display through May 1, 2022. All artwork on display is available for purchase.

The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport, is curating the Book Shop's art exhibits, which change monthly.
