The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome local artist Tammy Winser as guest exhibitor for the month of July at the Book Shop's Drew Friedman Art Place. Tammy is exhibiting a collection of her "So they say" paintings.
The idea comes first in Tammy’s works. She may be struck by a certain phrase or enamored of an existing photo. The absurdity of any given moment compels her to create artworks that are both thought-provoking and hopefully bring joy to anyone who sees them. Her “So they say” paintings are about her love of animals but with a twist: they have human traits or expressions to convey the craziness of life. These works are acrylic and collage on different bases.
Because there are so many aspects of life to explore, Tammy works in a variety of mediums. She uses assemblage for mini scenes of tiny people and animals, she uses photography to explore time, and her paintings to bring animals to life. The one word that seems to come to mind when viewing her art is “whimsical”.
Tammy began her career in fashion (Parsons grad, print designer for Marc Jacobs), was a kid photographer, and has since created public artworks in USA, Berlin, and Australia. She currently works on private commissions and exhibits in local galleries. She is one of the founders of the Artists Collective of Westport.
